Overview

This degree provides students with the opportunity to specialise in the field of Public Policy, for capacity building research and policy economists. It will provide an understanding of the motivations for and processes of policy making from an economic perspective. Graduates will develop the capacity to analyse policy effectiveness, design reform programs and identify the challenges to policy implementation. This program is designed for mid career professionals in the public sector or for those in roles of public affairs, government relations and the like. It will also be highly beneficial and relevant for students entering government service careers, and those intending to work in the private sector dealing with government. 

The Master of Applied Economics (Public Policy) is an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1.5 years.

Academic Program Rules for Master of Applied Economics (Public Policy)

There shall be a Master of Applied Economics (Public Policy).

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Master of Applied Economics (Public Policy), the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 36 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 9 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 21 units
  3. Research equivalent courses to the value of 6 units in the form of a research capstone
