Overview
This program offers a unique combination of theoretical learning and professional practice in the discipline of applied biology. It focuses on both biological knowledge and on the multitude of ways in which biology contributes to employment and productivity. Students will start from a broad base in their first year with fundamental knowledge and skills in biology, chemistry, quantitative and generic science literacy skills. In second year, students will begin to specialise with a focus on their area of interest and will have the opportunity to undertake a semester of study abroad in the second half of the year. In third year, students will choose a major in one of Plant Product Development, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology and Immunology and will have the opportunity to complete two industry or research placements.
The Bachelor of Applied Biology is an AQF Level 7 program with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
