Overview
This program integrates a grounding in contemporary media with an integrated and flexible approach to studying creative arts disciplines. The structural flexibility of the Bachelor of Creative Arts allied with the strong theoretical and applied grounding of the Bachelor of Media provides graduates with both a broad-ranging set of skills and knowledges and a focused understanding of their field or fields of creative practice. Courses in the Bachelor of Creative Arts allow students to develop practical skills in creative production and develop analytical and evaluative skills in reflection. The core courses in the degree offer students the opportunity to think deeply about creativity as a process and creative arts as individual disciplines. The Bachelor of Media provides students with a thorough understanding of contemporary media and how this complex industry is rapidly evolving under the influence of changing technologies and the different needs of societies around the world. Both core courses and Media Closed Electives provide opportunities for students to direct their learning towards specific sectors of media industries or to take a more wide-ranging approach to studying media. Capstone courses in both degrees provide opportunities for students to bridge the worlds of university and work by exploring ideas, developing skills and learning how to make a career in the worlds of art and/or media. The double degree contains opportunities for work integrated learning (internships), international exchange, practice led research and developing professional relationships with working creative artists.
The B Media with B Creative Arts is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4 years.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Creative Arts
There shall be a Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Creative Arts.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the double degree of Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Creative Arts, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 96 units, comprising:
Level I courses to a maximum of 30 units
Level III courses to the value of at least 33 units
Core courses to the value of 30 units
Capstone courses to the value of 12 units
Media Closed Elective courses to the value of 6 units and Creative Arts electives from the Reflection and Production Closed Electives list for the B Creative Arts to the value of 48 units
This program includes courses where work integrated learning is an option.
Students cannot undertake a Major in the Bachelor of Media.
Students cannot count Media core courses towards the Bachelor of Creative Arts component of the double degree. These courses are MDIA 1002 Key Concepts in Media, MDIA 1007 Digital Platforms and MDIA 2336 Digital Storytelling.
