Overview
This program introduces students to the core trends, issues and analyses of contemporary international security. Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of current international security challenges and global politics and develop skills in understanding how these can be managed or mitigated.
The Graduate Diploma International Security is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of global politics and apply this to current international security challenges.
- Understand and apply theoretical frameworks to analyse contemporary trends in international security.
- Understand, assess and communicate foundational theories, ideas and debates in contemporary international security.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of the principles of scholarly research methods in international security.
- Demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and adherence to high ethical standards of professional and research practice.
Conditions
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Graduate Diploma in International Security
There shall be a Graduate Diploma in International Security.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Graduate Diploma in International Security, the student must satisfactorily complete a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a total of not less than 24 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 12 units.
- Elective courses to the value of 12 units.
