Overview

Project management is a cross-disciplinary field that is vital for innovative activity in organisations and industries. Traditionally project management has played an important role in defence, aerospace, construction and engineering. Increasingly, project management is being applied in areas such as IT, banking and finance, disaster relief recovery, climate change, telecommunications and mining.

The Master of Project Management (Complex Systems) is an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically discuss the latest developments and best practice management and research of projects in Australia and overseas. Apply deep understanding of the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK), and reflect critically on trends and issues in relation to the management of both complex (including autonomous and independent systems) and complicated (linear) projects, including complex systems paradigms.
  2. Generate a substantial piece of research by applying research skills in a capstone research course which integrates elements from a whole program. Investigate theories related to project management methodologies and practice to plan potential and actual project solutions.
  3. Effectively communicate theoretical propositions, methodologies, and conclusions and professional decisions to a range of audiences including clients, project funders, community, other stakeholders and professional colleagues.
  4. Collaborate with other project stakeholders to generate and deliver innovative, financially, socially and environmentally responsible project solutions.
  5. Design and evaluate substantial research on topics of high relevance to project management with high levels of personal autonomy and accountability.
  6. Recognise and evaluate effective leadership within a project management context.
