Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Food and Nutrition Science is designed to begin the development of specialist skills and knowledge in nutrition, food science and technology. Students will learn the importance of developing a sustainable, nutritious and healthy food supply and be introduced to the design, processing and packaging of every-day and specialty foods with specific functional and nutritional properties.

The Graduate Certificate of Food and Nutrition Science is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 6 months.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate scientific knowledge and analysis skills in the discipline of food and nutrition science.
  2. Be able to evaluate, choose and then use appropriate technical skills to collect relevant data in the discipline of food and nutrition science.
  3. Apply a range of communication, digital and numeracy skills applicable to a food and nutrition science context.
  4. Work independently or as part of a team, demonstrate professional responsibility, cultural awareness and knowledge of ethical conduct and regulatory frameworks relevant to the food and nutrition science disciplines.

Conditions

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program. 

Academic Program Rules for Graduate Certificate in Food and Nutrition Science

There shall be a Graduate Certificate in Food and Nutrition Science.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Graduate Certificate in Food and Nutrition Science, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 12 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 12 units
