Overview

The Master of Computing and Innovation is a conversion program designed for students who wish to develop new skills in the areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and management and innovation. It is suitable for students with no prior experience in computer science as well as those with existing qualifications. In this program students undertake a variety of core and elective courses, designed to provide skills in ICT, management and innovation, as well as a significant project designed to combine skills developed across the program.

The Master of Computing and Innovation is an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including programming, computer and data structures and computer networks.
  2. Design complex systems involving hardware, software and networks using software engineering techniques.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of current technologies.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of professional conduct and ethical issues in the ICT industry.
  5. Communicate effectively, not only with other computer scientists and software engineers, but with the community at large on information technology issues.
  6. Establish, manage and work within innovative and entrepreneurial enterprises.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and processes of innovation, project management and commercialisation.

Conditions

Condition of Enrolment

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program. 

Academic Program Rules for Master of Computing and Innovation

There shall be a Master of Computing and Innovation.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Master of Computing and Innovation, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 48 units comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 33 units
  2. Capstone project course to the value of 9 units
  3. Elective courses to the value of 6 units
