Overview

The Bachelor of Music (Advanced) is intended to provide an enhanced learning experience for high achieving students. Students will benefit from more intensive individual tuition, access to advanced classes in their specialisation and special opportunities for higher level study through masterclasses and professional placements. It is anticipated that such an offering will attract higher-level students seeking a more challenging and rewarding learning experience. The Bachelor of Music (Advanced) will offer the following majors:
•    Performance - Classical
•    Performance - Jazz
•    Performance - Classical Voice
•    Creative Arts - Composition
•    Creative Arts - Popular Music
•    Creative Arts - Sonic Arts
•    Research Studies - Musicology
•    Research Studies - Music Education & Pedagogy

All applicants must attend an audition / interview (and obtain a score of 90 or above) and a musicianship test. Applicants may audition for more than one major.

The Bachelor of Music (Advanced) is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.

Conditions

Condition of Admission
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Head of School before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Condition of Continuing Enrolment
Re-audition to enrol in a Performance course after a break: A student who is eligible in any year to enrol in a performance course and who fails to do so, and who wishes to enrol in one of these courses in a subsequent year, will be required to re-audition and to reach a minimum standard for enrolment in the course in question before being authorised to enrol in that course.
 
Condition of Enrolment
External performances / engagements: The Head of School will determine whether students shall acknowledge the name of the School or its staff in any public performance / engagement in which they participate.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Music (Advanced)

There shall be a Bachelor of Music (Advanced).

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Music (Advanced), the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units.

  1. Core courses to the value of 18 units including ARTS 1007 The Enquiring Mind or ARTS 1007OL The Enquiring Mind
  2. Level I courses not exceeding 30 units
  3. Level III courses to the value of at least 24 units
  4. Broadening/Elective courses to the value of up to 18 units
  5. At least one major to the value of up to 51 units.

    To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 18 units.
