Overview
The Bachelor of Psychological Science is designed for students who seek to undertake a comprehensive program of study in psychology and related areas of learning. The early part of the program seeks to provide an overview of psychology as a discipline and as a profession.
The psychology courses undertaken in later years enable students to study the biological bases of behaviour; sensory perception; cognition and language; learning and memory; motivation and emotion; social psychology; developmental psychology; personality and individual differences; and mental health. In addition to completing the major sequence in psychology, students complete 3 compuslory psychology courses covering research methodology, psychological skills and applications, and psychological perspectives on global issues.
In order to gain provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, students must undertake the fourth year Honours program.
The Bachelor of Psychological Science is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Psychological Science
There shall be a Bachelor of Psychological Science.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Psychological Science, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study with a combined total of not less than 72 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 39 units
- Elective courses to the value of 24 units, which may include a second major to the value of 24 units from the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science; or a second major in Addiction Science, Human Neurosciences, Population Health, Management, Marketing or Computer Science
- Broadening Electives to the value of 9 units
- Level I courses to the value of no more than 24 units, of which 12 units are Psychology courses
- Level II courses to the value of no more than 24 units, of which 15 units are Psychology courses
- Level III courses to the value of no more than 24 units, of which 12 units are Psychology courses
To satisfy the requirements for Second Major from Degree Program students must complete a Major to the value of 24 units from the following programs, or from the Second Majors listed:

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
Students may take Elective courses offered by the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Business School or School of Mathematical and Computer Science that are available to them, and may include an option of a second major to the value of 24 units as specified.

Broadening Electives
To satisfy the requirements for Broadening Electives students must complete courses to the value of 9 units.
Students must complete Broadening electives to the value of 9 units taken outside the subject area: PSYCHOL and the chosen second major. Broadening electives can be taken at any level.
