Overview
Global energy demands are increasing annually highlighting the critical importance of energy resources for future sustainability. This program is for students interested in the areas of science that relate to Earth's energy resources - including conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, water, geothermal and uranium for nuclear power. This program provides graduates with specific knowledge and skill sets to investigate the nature, origin, distribution, discovery and exploitation of these energy resources that are increasingly required for successful careers in this rapidly growing industry. A feature of the program includes extensive fieldwork and practical investigations. In second year, students will have the opportunity to undertake a semester of study abroad at a renowned energy geoscience institution. In third year, students undertake a Work Integrated Learning Experience and will be mentored by industry experts and will undertake research projects with real industry samples and datasets. The program is in line with the strategic development of South Australia in providing training for the next generation of skilled workers in the energy sector.
The Bachelor of Science (Energy Geoscience) is an AQF Level 7 program with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Science (Energy Geoscience)
There shall be a Bachelor of Science (Energy Geoscience).
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Energy Geoscience), the candidate must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 72 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 48 units
- Elective courses to the value of 24 units, which may include other undergraduate courses offered by the University that are not offered by the Faculty of Sciences up to the value of 9 units in total at levels I and/or II with no more than 6 units at level I
- Level I courses to the value of not more than 30 units
- Level III Science courses to the value of at least 24 units
- A major in Geo-Energy Resources
- Broadening electives to the value of 9 units.
