Overview

This degree is designed to provide students with the opportunity to qualify for both the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences and the degree of Bachelor of Laws. This will provide graduates with a broad education in health as well as broadly based liberal and academic education that will enable them to register as legal practitioners. Students in this program must meet the requirements of both the Bachelor of Health Sciences and the Bachelor of Laws. Students may present 12 units of Law courses at Level I, and 12 units of Law courses at Level II in lieu of electives of the Bachelor of Health Sciences.
The Bachelor of Health Sciences / Bachelor of Laws is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 5 years.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Health Sciences / Bachelor of Laws

There shall be a Bachelor of Health Sciences / Bachelor of Laws.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Laws, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 120 units. A student must concurrently qualify for both awards.
 
Health Sciences component
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences, the student must complete courses from the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences to a minimum value of 48 units, comprising:

  1. Level I Health Sciences courses to the value of at least 12 units
  2. Level II Health Sciences courses to the value of at least 12 units
  3. Level III Health Sciences courses to the value of at least 12 units
  4. Core courses to the value of 18 units.
  5. A major from the following:
    • Anatomical Sciences (18 units)
    • Biochemistry (27 units)
    • Epidemiology (18 units)
    • Exercise Science (27 units)
    • Genetics (21 units)
    • Health Promotion (18 units)
    • Human Reproductive Health (18 units)
    • Indigenous Health (18 units)
    • Microbiology (21 units)
    • Neuroscience (21 units)
    • Nutrition (21 units)
    • Pathology (18 units)
    • Pharmacology (18 units)
    • Physiology (21 units)
  6. Elective courses up to the value of 12 units, which may include closed and open electives.
  7. Broadening Electives to the value of 9 units.
Law component
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Laws, the student must complete courses from the degree of Bachelor of Laws to the value of 72 units, comprising Core courses to the value of 57 units and Elective courses to the value of 15 units
