Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Insolvency Law is designed to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the role of Insolvency Law and the process and legislative framework of insolvency practice in Australia. The program is designed for tertiary graduates (degree or diploma), while mature non-degree applicants will be assessed for admission on the basis of their recognised expertise and experience.

Successful completion of the program will allow students to demonstrate tertiary level study in the field of insolvency law, in order to be licensed as insolvency practitioners by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), as required by the Insolvency Law Reform Act 2016 (Cth).

Students entering the program would normally be expected to hold a Bachelor of Laws, or a Bachelor of Commerce which includes the study of commercial or business law. Students with other qualifications or significant experience in a relevant field will be assessed on a case by case basis. Students admitted with other qualifications or recognised expertise will be required to undertake an introductory Australian Law course as a core course.
This program is generally taught over two semesters in intensive blended mode, and includes a mix of face-to-face intensives and online learning. The course is offered in both the first and second semesters which run from February to June and July to November, respectively.

The introductory Australian Law course introduces the concepts, frameworks and legislation of Australian Law, while the Insolvency Law course provides a greater depth of understanding of the legislative framework supporting insolvency practice. The most benefit and best understanding of the program content is gained by students who complete within one year.

Applicants are also expected to meet the University's English language proficiency requirements for Law programs (http://www.international.adelaide.edu.au/apply/admission/).

The standard duration of the program is one year of part-time study.

This program is available full-time only to International Students.
