Overview
This program is designed to provide advanced coursework leading to professionally accredited qualifications. The program has a strong foundation in ecological, social and economic sustainability as a basis for planning. It also emphasises skills in communication and collaboration with local communities and professional groups. The program employs a combination of lectures, tutorials, intensive workshops and studio activity.
The Master of Planning is an AQF Level 9 Masters Conversion qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Master of Planning
There shall be a Master of Planning.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Master of Planning, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 48 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 36 units
- Elective courses to the value of 6 units
- Research equivalent courses to the value of 6 units in the form of a research dissertation or final project to the value of 12 units counted in lieu of a research dissertation and elective courses to the value of 6 units.

To satisfy the requirements for Research students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.
Courses to the value of at least 6 units from the following:

Students take ARCH 7043 Final Architecture Project (M) in place of GEOG 7019 Planning Dissertation and elective courses to the value of 6 units.
