Overview
The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts double degree prepares students for teaching in secondary schools. It is designed for students who are beginning tertiary study. The primary focus in the first three years of the double degree is on completing two teaching areas for teaching up to Year 12 level.
Students are required to have completed the requirements of the discipline degree to be eligible to enrol into the fourth year of the program.
The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4 years.
The program is offered as a double degree only and students are required to complete both awards at the same time.
Conditions
Condition of Admission
Criminal History Clearance: Students must be able to demonstrate a successful National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) as it is required by teacher employment authorities in Australia and South Australia. A Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to undertaking any professional experience/practicum placements which involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age). These placements are compulsory. International students will be required to obtain a certificate from their home country
Condition of Enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Condition of Continuing Enrolment
LANTITE: progression into the fourth year of the program is subject to the successful completion of both the literacy and numeracy components of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE).
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts
There shall be a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 96 units, comprising:
1. Core courses to the value of 36 units from the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)
2. Courses to the value of 6 units from the Bachelor of Teaching Curriculum and Pedagogy courses.
3. Courses to the value of 54 units from the Bachelor of Arts including:
- One major to the value of 24 units (or 33 units for the Psychology major)
- One minor to the value of 18 units (or 21 units for the Psychology minor)
- Core course chosen from the Core Competency List to the value of 3 units
- Bachelor of Arts electives to the value of 9 units
- Level I courses to the value of at least 18 units, including at least 12 units at Level I from the Bachelor of Arts.
- Level II and Level III courses to the value of at least 36 units.
- The major and minor must be from different disciplines and may be chosen from the following:

To satisfy the requirements for Geography, Environment and Population Major students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
A minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 6 units must be completed at Level I, a minimum of 3 units of Level II and at least 12 units at Level III, including 6 units of the designated capstone course.
