The Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience) program comprises a comprehensive set of coursework and research training experiences. The school has strong links with the basin energy exploration & production industry sector, and senior industry personnel who contribute teaching to some of our specialist courses. The program increases student knowledge in the essential areas of Energy Geoscience and trains students to use industry-standard techniques and software. Students receive a thorough grounding in the principles of exploration and development geoscience, whilst being exposed to practical aspects of the industry sector learned through decades of resource development experience around the world. Applicants for the program must have completed an AQF Level 8 (Honours) qualification or an equivalent combination of awards and prior learning.


Condition of Enrolment

1.     Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program: 

To qualify for the degree of Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience), the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 15 units
  2. Research Project to the value of 9 units
Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience)

To satisfy the requirements for Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience) students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
