Overview

The Master of Landscape Architecture is a professionally accredited program which will enable graduates to apply for registration and practice as Landscape Architects. The program is intended to develop professional and creative abilities in the context of contemporary theory and practice in Landscape Architecture.

The Master of Landscape Architecture is an AQF Level 9 Masters Extension qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Conditions

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLandArch).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the degree of Master of Landscape Architecture, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 48 units, comprising:

  1. Students shall pass courses to the value of at least 24 units at each stage
  2. Core courses to the value of 33 units
  3. Elective courses to the value of 3 units
  4. Research equivalent courses to the value of 12 units in the form of a research project or research dissertation

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 33 units.

Year I

All of the following courses must be completed:

ARCH 7020 Professional Practice (M) (3 units)

ARCH 7034 Studio: Urbanism (M) (6 units)

ARCH 7035 Critical Historical Practices (M) (3 units)

LARCH 7028 Studio Cultures: Landscape Architecture (M) (6 units)

LARCH 7029 Advanced Landscape Architecture Technologies (M) (3 units)

Year II

All of the following courses must be completed:

ARCH 7042 Designing Research (M) (3 units)

LARCH 7031 Studio: Landscape Architecture (M) (6 units)

LARCH 7032 Advanced Ecology (M) (3 units)

Research Dissertation / Final Project

To satisfy the requirements for Research Dissertation / Final Project students must complete courses to the value of 12 units.

LARCH 7033 Final Landscape Architecture Project (M) (12 units)

or

LARCH 7034 Final Landscape Architecture Dissertation (M) (12 units)

Elective Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 3 units.

Courses to the value of up to 3 units may be taken from the following:

ARCH 7037 Experiential Studio: Onshore (M) (3 units)

ARCH 7038 Experiential Studio: Offshore (M) (3 units)

ARCH 7039 Independent Study (M) (3 units)

LARCH 7030 Landscape Architecture Internship (M) (3 units)

or

Courses to the value of up to 3 units may be taken from the following:

other postgraduate coursework courses offered by the University.
