Overview

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is a one year program that includes advanced coursework and a research project in which students produce an extended piece of work (thesis) on a topic chosen in consultation with an academic supervisor.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.

Conditions

Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (BA(Hons)).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) the student must complete satisfactorily an area of research (major) with a combined total of not less than 24 units, from the following:

Anthropology Honours

To satisfy the requirements for Anthropology Honours students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.

Core Courses

All of the following courses must be completed:

ANTH 4008 Honours Theory, Ethnography & Fieldwork (6 units)

ANTH 4009 Research Methods in Anthropology (6 units)

Research Dissertation

Courses to the value of 12 units from the following:

In the case of full-time enrolment students must take the following:

ANTH 4003 Honours Anthropology Thesis (12 units)

or

Courses to the value of 12 units from the following:

In the case of part-time enrolment the following two courses must be completed in consecutive semesters. Students are required to take both Part A and the matching Part B course:

Chinese Studies Honours

To satisfy the requirements for Chinese Studies Honours students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
