Overview

The Flexible Entry pathway to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degrees provides students with an introduction to the engineering profession through exposure to the various engineering disciplines taught within the Faculty. This pathway provides a generic program of study in which students enrol into common introductory engineering courses. In the second half students enrol in two common introductory engineering courses and two electives, according to their preferred discipline of specialisation.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Flexible Entry pathway has a standard full-time duration of 1 year. It is compulsory that students transfer to a named Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree on completion of the program of study of 24 units.

There shall be a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Flexible Entry (BE(Honours)(Flex)).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Flexible Entry pathway is not an award from which students can graduate. Students must transfer into one of the named Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) single, double or combined degrees at the completion of courses to the value of 24 units in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Flexible Entry pathway.

Unless exempted, International students are required to take ENG 1011 Introduction to Engineering EAL in lieu of ENG 1001 Introduction to Engineering.

Transferring to Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) award

At the completion of the 24 units of study students will be transferred to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) named degree of their choice.

Students transferring to one of the following single named degrees completing courses according to the below schedule will be granted academic credit to the value of 24 units:

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining)

Students transferring to one of the following single named degrees completing courses according to the below schedule will be granted academic credit to the value of 21 units:

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Architectural and Structural)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Petroleum)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Software) 

Students transferring to one of the following single named degrees completing courses according to the below schedule will be granted academic credit to the value of 18 units:

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Environmental)

Students transferring to one of the following single named degrees completing courses according to the below schedule will be granted academic credit to the value of 15 units:

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical)
 

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 18 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

CEME 1004 Engineering Mechanics - Statics (3 units)

ELEC ENG 1101 Electronic Systems (3 units)

ENG 1001 Introduction to Engineering (3 units)

MATHS 1011 Mathematics IA (3 units)

MATHS 1012 Mathematics IB (3 units)

and

Courses to the value of 3 units from the following:

ENG 1002 Programming (Matlab and C) (3 units)

ENG 1003 Programming (Matlab and Excel) (3 units)

Stream Electives

To satisfy the requirements for Stream Electives students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical)

All of the following courses must be completed:

CHEM 1200 Chemistry IB (3 units)

and

Courses to the value of 3 units from the following:

CEME 1002 Introduction to Infrastructure (3 units)

MECH ENG 1007 Engineering Mechanics - Dynamics (3 units)

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)
 

All of the following courses must be completed:

CEME 1002 Introduction to Infrastructure (3 units)

and

Courses to the value of up to 3 units may be taken from the following:

CEME 1003 Resources and Energy in a Circular Economy (3 units)

MECH ENG 1007 Engineering Mechanics - Dynamics (3 units)

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Architectural and Structural)

All of the following courses must be completed:

DESST 1504 Representation I (3 units)

DESST 1507 Construction I (3 units)

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining)

All of the following courses must be completed:

MINING 1011 Introduction to Mining Engineering I (3 units)

and

Courses to the value of 3 units of general elective

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Software)

All of the following courses must be completed:

COMP SCI 1106 Introduction to Software Engineering (3 units)

ELEC ENG 1102 Digital Electronics (3 units)

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)

All of the following courses must be completed:

ELEC ENG 1102 Digital Electronics (3 units)

PHYSICS 1510 Physics IE: Mechanics and Thermodynamics (3 units)

Students intending to transfer to:
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)

All of the following courses must be completed:
