Overview

The Diploma in Commercial Music & Song Writing is designed as an entry into the arts, entertainment and media industries for performing artists. It will provide students with a thorough grounding in song writing and commercial music production. The program has a strong emphasis on practical activities enabling students to develop the creative, technical and professional skills used by composers of contemporary music, with an emphasis on the creation and presentation of new original work. These skills are complimented by studies in sound recording and production, music theory, and business, providing the basis for either wok in the industry or successful continuation into further tertiary study.

The Diploma in Diploma in Music (Commercial Music & Song Writing) is an AQF Level 5 program with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.

Conditions

Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Head of Postgraduate Program before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the Diploma in Music (Commercial Music & Song Writing), the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 24 units

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

MUSONIC 1000 Music Technology Foundations (3 units)

MUSONIC 1210 Sound Engineering (3 units)

MUSPOP 1001 Song Writing A (3 units)

MUSPOP 1002 Song Writing B (3 units)

MUSPOP 1003 Contemporary Musicianship 1A (3 units)

MUSPOP 1004 Contemporary Musicianship 1B (3 units)

MUSPOP 1005 Contemporary Music in Practice A (3 units)

MUSPOP 1006 Contemporary Music in Practice B (3 units)
