Overview

This program provides students with an understanding of the principles and practice of environmental policy, planning and governance. It addresses how global warming, water shortages, deforestation and the like are to be managed now and into the future. The program targets three distinct audiences: recent graduates seeking a career in environmental management; mid-career professionals looking to update their knowledge in the fast-changing domain of environmental governance and management; and those wishing to undertake further research on these topics.

The Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and Management is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 0.5 years.

Conditions

Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and Management (GCertEnvPolicyMgt)

There shall be a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and Management (GCertEnvPolicyMgt).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Policy and Management, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 12 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 6 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 6 units

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

GEOG 7002 Environmental Planning and Governance (6 units)

Elective Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

Courses to the value of 6 units from the following:

GEOG 7001 Research Design and Methods (6 units)

GEOG 7003 Environmental Impact Assessment (6 units)

GEOG 7004 Environmental Economics and Policy (6 units)

GEOG 7005 Community Engagement (6 units)

GEOG 7006 People and Environment in the Asia-Pacific Region (6 units)

GEOG 7007 Applied Spatial Analysis (6 units)

GEOG 7010 Valuing the Environment (6 units)

GEOG 7014 Sustainable Cities: Planning for Climate Change (6 units)
