Overview

The Master of Applied Finance program is designed to help individuals to enhance their managerial effectiveness in the field of finance. This program also aims to provide participants with a strong foundation in the principles and practice of finance, and furnishes them with new skills and analytical tools to form a sound basis for financial decision-making.
The Master of Applied Finance is an AQF Level 9 Masters Conversion qualification with a standard duration of 1.5 years.

Conditions

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Master of Applied Finance (MAppFin)

There shall be a Master of Applied Finance (MAppFin).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the degree of Master of Applied Finance, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 36 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 27 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 9 units

Prior Learning

Students with cognate knowledge may be approved by the Program Coordinator to complete additional electives in lieu of core courses to the equivalent unit value.

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 27 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

ACCTING 7019 Accounting Concepts and Methods (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7005 Principles of Finance (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7019 Advanced Funds Management (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7020 Derivatives (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7039 Equity Valuation & Analysis (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7040 Fixed Income Securities (M) (3 units)

ECON 7200 Economic Principles (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7033 Quantitative Methods (M) (3 units)

ACCTFIN 7001 Ethical Principles in Finance & Accounting (3 units)

Elective Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 9 units.

Courses to the value of at least 6 units from the following:

CORPFIN 7022 Advanced Corporate Finance (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7042 Corporate Financial Risk Management (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 6003 Tax, Estate and Wealth Planning (3 units)

ACCTFIN 7017 Financial Statement Analysis (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7023 Financial Modelling Techniques (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 6013 Wealth Management in Asia (3 units)

BUSANA 7000 Fundamentals of Business Analytics (3 units)

BUSANA 7001 Predictive and Visual Analytics (3 units)

BUSANA 7002 Customer Analytics (3 units)

and

Courses to the value of up to 3 units may be taken from the following:
