Overview

This program in Curatorial and Museum Studies offers students core courses in museology and practice in conjunction with research training and academic extension through the choice of elective courses. Students may also take a Work Integrated Learning course.

The Master Curatorial and Museum Studies is an AQF Level 9 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Conditions

Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Master of Curatorial and Museum Studies (MCuratMuseumSt)

There shall be a Master of Curatorial and Museum Studies (MCuratMuseumSt).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the Master of Curatorial and Museum Studies, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 48 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 12 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 18 units
  3. Research training courses to the value of 6 units
  4. A research dissertation to the value of 12 units

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 12 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

MUSEUM 7001 Making a Museum (6 units)

MUSEUM 7002 The Secret Life of Objects: Museums in Practice (6 units)

Research Training

To satisfy the requirements for Research Training students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

EDUC 7020 Qualitative Approaches to Research (3 units)

EDUC 7011 Introduction to Quantitative Methods (3 units)

EDUC 7054 Research Design (3 units)

EDUC 7055 Research Communication (3 units)

EDUC 7055OL Research Communication (3 units)

Research Dissertation

To satisfy the requirements for Research Dissertation students must complete courses to the value of 12 units.

All of the following courses must be completed:

Students must complete a research dissertation of not longer than 20,000 words

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 18 units.
