Overview

The program is designed to offer knowledge and skills in accounting and related fields. It will enable students possessing undergraduate degrees in non-accounting disciplines to move into careers in accounting, financial management, auditing and business advisory services in public practice, industry or government. Recent developments in reporting practices have presented increasing career opportunities in public and private sector entities.
The Master of Professional Accounting is an AQF Level 9 Masters Conversion qualification with a standard duration of 1.5 years.

Conditions

Condition of Enrolment

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcct)

There shall be a Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcct).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the degree of Master of Professional Accounting, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 36 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 33 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 3 units

Prior Learning

Students with cognate knowledge may be approved by the Program Coordinator to complete additional electives in lieu of core courses to the equivalent unit value.

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 33 units.

ACCTING 7019 Accounting Concepts and Methods (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7005 Principles of Finance (M) (3 units)

ECON 7200 Economic Principles (M) (3 units)

CORPFIN 7033 Quantitative Methods (M) (3 units)

ACCTING 7014 Management Accounting (M) (3 units)

ACCTING 7020 Intermediate Financial Reporting (M) (3 units)

ACCTING 7023 Advanced Financial Accounting (M) (3 units)

ACCTING 7026 Accounting Systems and Processes (M) (3 units)

ACCTING 7009 Auditing & Assurance Services (M) (3 units)

COMMLAW 7013 Income Taxation (M) (3 units)

COMMLAW 7012 Business and Corporations Law (3 units)

Elective Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Elective Courses students must complete courses to the value of 3 units.

Courses to the value of up to 3 units may be taken from the following:
