Overview

The Undergraduate Certificate in Educational  Media is an AQF Level 5 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 0.5 years.

Conditions

On current TEQSA advice (14 December 2021), students must complete the qualification by 30 June 2025.

Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Undergraduate Certificate in Educational Media (UGCertEdMedia).

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program

To qualify for the Undergraduate Certificate in  Educational Media, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 12 units, comprising:

  1. Core EDUC course to the value of 3 units
  2. Core MDIA course to the value of 3 units
  3. Level I or II electives to the value of 6 units

Core Courses

To satisfy the requirements for Core Courses students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

Core Courses Education

Courses to the value of 3 units from the following:

EDUC 1001 Schools and Society (3 units)

EDUC 1017OL Introduction to Online Educational Media (3 units)

plus

Core Courses Media

Courses to the value of 3 units from the following:

MDIA 1002 Key Concepts in Media (3 units)

MDIA 1014OL Key Concepts in Media Studies Online (3 units)

or

Courses to the value of 3 units from the following:

MDIA 1007 Digital Platforms (3 units)

Electives

To satisfy the requirements for Electives students must complete courses to the value of 6 units.

Note: Level II electives are offered for students with prior media experience, and are available only by discussion with the course coordinator.

Courses to the value of 6 units from the following:

MDIA 1015 Screen and Sound Industries (3 units)

MDIA 1017 3D Imaging (3 units)

MDIA 1018 Design Fundamentals (3 units)

MDIA 1019 Image and Brand (3 units)

MDIA 1020 Media Professions and Identities (3 units)

or

Courses to the value of 6 units from the following:

Level 2 Electives (Admission subject to course coordinator approval)

MDIA 2224 Virtual Reality Design and Development II (3 units)

MDIA 2336 Stories on Screen (3 units)
