Overview

The program provides students with an introduction to broad economic concepts and skills, to understanding and exploring health care systems from an economic perspective; and to applying approaches to assessing the value for money of health care technologies and services. The development of core knowledge in the academic disciplines of economics and public health informs an inter-disciplinary approach to improving health service efficiency.

The flexible structure of the program allows students to tailor their studies according to their educational background or career aspirations, covering theory and real-world applications with respect to economic aspects of health policy and the use of economic evaluation to plan the efficient allocation of scarce resources.

A knowledge of Stage 2 Mathematical Studies or equivalent is assumed. The Graduate Certificate in Health Economics is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 0.5 years.
