Overview

The program aims to stimulate students to think creatively about the social, cultural, economic and environmental determinants of health and illness in populations and about the organisation and delivery of public health services, including policies and practices that support and improve the health of people.
There are two specialisations. The Public Health specialisation is intended to equip graduates for careers in public health or to broaden the public health orientation of their current work for those with established careers. The Translational Health Sciences specialisation is intended to equip graduates with skills to contribute professionally to evidence based healthcare in public health and clinical settings.
The Master of Public Health is an AQF Level 9 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Conditions

Condition of continuing enrolment
Research dissertation: A student must complete core and elective courses to a value of 36 units with a minimum GPA of 5.0, before proceeding to the research dissertation.
Research thesis: A student must complete core and elective courses to a value of 24 units with a minimum GPA of 5.0, before proceeding to the research thesis.

Academic Program Rules for Master of Public Health

There shall be a Master of Public Health.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Master of Public Health, as a Conversion program, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study with a combined total of not less than 48 units. The Conversion program is available in one of the following specialisations:

  • Public Health
  • Translational Health Sciences
  • Population Oral Health
 
To qualify for the degree of Master of Public Health, as an Extension program, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study with a combined total of either 36 or 24 units. The Extension program is only available in the Public Health specialisation.
 
The Public Health specialisation comprises Core courses (18-24 units), Electives (up to 12 units) and Research Capstone courses (12 units) with an option for a Dissertation (12 units) or a Thesis (24 units).
 
The Translational Health Sciences specialisation comprises Core courses (27 units), Electives (9 units) and a research equivalent experience (12 units).
 
The Population Oral Health specialisation comprises Core courses (24 units) and either a Research pathway (24 units) or a Practice pathway (24 units).
