Overview
The Bachelor of Criminology offers a range of courses on the sociology of crime and deviance as well as providing students with the opportunity to study subjects that form part of the growing field of crime science. Key to the program is the application of these theories and techniques to both criminal justice policy and practice.
The Bachelor of Criminology is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Conditions
Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Criminology
There shall be a Bachelor of Criminology.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Criminology the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units:
1. Core courses to the value of 27 units, including ARTS 1007 The Enquiring Mind: Freedom and Media
2. Criminology Closed Electives to the value of 12 units
3. Elective courses to the value of 24 units
4. Broadening Electives to the value of 9 units
Or
5. If studying a Major in Politics, Elective courses to the value of 9 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
6. If studying a Major in Psychology, the requirement for elective courses required in (3) and (4) is waived
Or
7. If studying a Minor in Forensic Medicine, Elective courses to the value of 15 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
8. If studying a Minor in Psychology, Elective courses to the value of 12 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)

Politics Major
To satisfy the requirements for Politics Major students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
A minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 6 units must be completed at Level I, a minimum of 3 units of Level II and at least 12 units at Level III, including 6 units of the designated capstone course. Students must complete at least 3 units in Level I of the major before undertaking courses at Level II, 3 units at Level II before undertaking courses at Level III, and 15 units in the major before undertaking the capstone.

Politics Minor
To satisfy the requirements for Politics Minor students must complete courses to the value of 18 units.
A minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 6 units must be completed at Level I, a minimum of 3 units at Level II and at least 6 units at Level III. Students must complete at least 3 units in the Minor at Level I before undertaking courses at Level II, and 3 units at Level II before undertaking courses at Level III. The Minor may not be taken in the same area of study as the Major.

To satisfy the requirements for Broadening Electives students must complete courses to the value of 9 units.
Courses to the value of 9 units chosen from outside of the major area of study and cannot be chosen from the following subject areas or from the minor: CRIM, GEOG, GEND and SOCI. This requirement is waived if studying a Major or Minor in Psychology, a Major or Minor in Politics , or a Minor in Forensic Medicine.
