Overview
The Bachelor of Sociology offers a range of courses which will combine deep discipline knowledge of sociology with advanced quantitative data analysis skills. Key to the program is the acquisition of sociological knowledge and techniques, including quantitative data analysis.
The Bachelor of Sociology is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Conditions
Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Sociology
There shall be a Bachelor of Sociology.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Sociology, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units:
- Core courses to the value of 27 units, including ARTS 1007 The Enquiring Mind
- Sociology Closed Electives to the value of 9 units
- Elective courses to the value of up to 27 units
- Broadening Electives to the value of up to 9 units

International Development Major
To satisfy the requirements for International Development Major students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
A minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 6 units must be completed at Level I, 6 units must be completed at Level II and at least 12 units at Level III, including 6 units of the designated capstone course. Students must complete at least 3 units in the major of Level I before undertaking courses at Level II, 3 units at Level II before undertaking courses at Level III, and 15 units in the major before undertaking the capstone.
