Overview

The Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) with Bachelor of Business Management prepares students for teaching years 7 to 10 of the Australian Curriculum. It is designed for students who are beginning tertiary study.The primary focus in the first three years of the double degree is on completing two teaching areas taught at the middle school level (years 7 to 10 inclusive).
 
Students are required to have completed the requirements of the discipline degree to be eligible to enrol into the fourth year of the program.
 
The Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) with Bachelor of Business Management is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full­ time duration of 4 years.
 

Conditions

Condition of Admission
Criminal History Clearance: Students must be able to demonstrate a successful a National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) as it is required by teacher employment authorities in Australia and South Australia. A Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) check is required prior to undertaking any professional experience/practicum placements which involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age). These placements are compulsory. International students will be required to obtain a certificate from their home country

Condition of Enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Condition of Continuing Enrolment
LANTITE: progression into the fourth year of the program is subject to the successful completion of both the literacy and numeracy components of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE).

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) with Bachelor of Business Management

There shall be a Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) with Bachelor of Business Management.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching (Middle) Bachelor of Business Management, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses to the value of 96 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 30 units for the Bachelor of Teaching (Middle)
  2. Courses to the value of 12 units from the Bachelor of Teaching Curriculum and Methodology courses.
  3. Courses to not less than the value of 54 units from the Bachelor of Business Management including:
  • Core courses to the value of 21 units
  • A major in Business Management to the value of 24 units
  • Elective courses to the value of 9 units to complete a second teaching area in Accounting, Legal Studies or Humanities and Social Sciences.

  • Teaching Minor Area

    To satisfy the requirements for Teaching Minor Area students must complete courses to the value of 12 units.

    Accounting Teaching Area

    The following core course counts towards the Accounting Teaching Area:
    ACCTING 1002 Introductory Accounting (3units)

    Humanities and Social Sciences

    The following core course counts towards the Humanities and Social Sciences Teaching Area:
    COMMLAW 1004 Commercial Law I ( 3units)

    And

    Level I courses to the value of 3 units from the History and Geography disciplines offered by the University of Adelaide. Other courses may be compatible, subject to Program Coordinator’s approval
     
    And

    Level II and/or Level III courses to the value of 6 units from the History and Geography disciplines offered by the University of Adelaide. Other courses may be compatible, subject to Program Coordinator’s approval

    Legal Studies

    The following core course counts towards the Legal Studies Teaching Area:
