Overview

Students will be introduced to the discipline of Art History and curatorship with in-depth study. They will develop foundation knowledge and critical skills in visual analysis, contextual research of diverse images and objects, art historical methods and theories, and different modes of writing about art.

The Graduate Diploma in Art History is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.

Academic Program Rules for Graduate Diploma in Art History

There shall be a Graduate Diploma in Art History.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in Art History, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of:

  1. Core courses to the value of 6 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 18 units

    All of the following courses must be completed:

    If you wish to do further study in the Master of Arts (Art History) you must complete ARTH 7002OL The Work of Art in Context: Independent Study as one of your 18 units of electives, preferably as the third or fourth course of your Graduate Diploma in Art History.

    If you wish to do further study in the Master of Arts (Curatorial and Museum Studies) you must complete ARTH 7003/OL Digital Exhibition Project: Art History as one of your 18 units of electives, preferably as the third or fourth course of your Graduate Diploma in Art History.
