Overview

The double degree of Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) with Bachelor of Laws provides students with specialised and advanced knowledge in an Arts disciplines along with knowledge in the operation of the Australian legal system. The double degree provides a broadly based liberal and academic education suitable for graduates who wish to become legal practitioners, or to pursue careers in government, commerce, industry, community organisations or academic institutions.

The program consists of compulsory courses in the disciplines of law and arts which provide students with a sound understanding of legal, humanities and social science concepts, processes and methods. In addition, students choose from a range of elective courses in areas of specialised interest in both law and arts. The double degree is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4.5 years.

Conditions

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Students enrolled in this program must maintain a minimum semester GPA of 5.0 throughout their enrolment in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) or will be required to transfer to the Bachelor of Arts.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) with Bachelor of Laws

There shall be a Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) with Bachelor of Laws.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) with Bachelor of Laws, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 108 units, comprising:

• Core courses to the value of 60 units.
• A major to the value of 24 units in Arts (note that 6-unit major capstone courses are substituted with ARTS 3002 Arts Advanced Research Project)
• Law closed elective courses to the value of 24 units
• Arts elective courses to the value of 6 units
