Overview

The Bachelor of Laws degree provides a broadly based liberal and academic education suitable for graduates who wish to become legal practitioners. Although many graduates enter legal practice, a significant number choose to pursue careers in government, commerce, industry, community organisations or academic institutions.

The program consists of a number of compulsory law courses which provide students with a sound understanding of legal concepts, processes and methods. In addition, students choose from a range of elective law courses in areas of specialised interest. Students can include some non-law electives towards their studies.
 
The Bachelor of Laws is an AQF level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4 years.
 

Conditions

Condition of Enrolment

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Laws

There shall be a Bachelor of Laws.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Laws, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 96 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 48 units
  2. Elective courses to the value of 48 units*
*Students will be required to complete 24 units of Elective courses and a combined total of not less than 72 units if they have:
  • Qualified for a degree in another School or Faculty of the University, or 
  • A non-Law qualification, equivalent to an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree, from another institution
