Overview

The Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies will focus on the application of peace building and conflict resolution strategies in a variety of real world global contexts. Students can choose to study a major or minor in Criminology; International Development; Geography, Environment and Population; or Politics.

The Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.

Conditions

Condition of Enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies

There shall be a Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units:
1. Core courses to the value of 24 units, including ARTS 1007 The Enquiring Mind or ARTS 1007OL The Enquiring Mind
2. Peace and Conflict Closed Electives to the value of 12 units
3. Open Elective courses to the value of up to 27 units
4. Broadening Electives to the value of up to 9 units
Or
5 .If studying an optional Major in Criminology, Open Elective courses to the value of 12 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
6. If studying an optional Major in International Development, Open Elective courses to the value of 12 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
7. If studying an optional Major in Geography, Environment and Population, Open Elective courses to the value of 12 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
8. If studying an optional Major in Politics, Open Elective courses to the value of 12 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
9. If studying an optional Minor in Criminology, Open Elective courses to the value of 18 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
10. If studying an optional Minor in International Development, Open Elective courses to the value of 18 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
11. If studying an optional Minor in Geography, Environment and Population, Open Elective courses to the value of 18 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)
Or
12. If studying an optional Minor in Politics, Open Elective courses to the value of 18 units in lieu of the courses required in (3) and (4)

    Courses to the value of 36 units from any undergraduate courses offered by the University that are available to the student.

    or

    Courses to the value of 12 units from the following:

    If studying a major in Criminology; International Development; Geography, Environment and Population; or Politics, courses to the value of 12 units from any undergraduate courses offered by the University that are available to the student.

    or

    Courses to the value of 18 units from the following:

    If studying a minor in Criminology; International Development; Geography, Environment and Population; or Politics, courses to the value of 18 units from any undergraduate courses offered by the University that are available to the student.

  • Broadening Electives

    To satisfy the requirements for Broadening Electives students must complete courses to the value of 9 units.

    Broadening Electives

    Courses to the value of 9 units from the following:

    Courses chosen from outside of the major area of study and cannot be chosen from the following subject areas: POLIS or PEACE. This requirement is waived if studying any Major or Minor available in the program.
