The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Economics double degree prepares students for teaching in secondary schools. It is designed for students who are beginning tertiary study. The primary focus in the first three years of the double degree is on completing two teaching areas for teaching up to Year 12 level.
Students are required to have completed the requirements of the discipline degree to be eligible to enrol into the fourth year of the program.

The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Economics is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4 years, and for mid year entry students a standard duration of 4.25 years.


Condition of Admission
Criminal History Clearance: Students must be able to demonstrate a successful a National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) as it is required by teacher employment authorities in Australia and South Australia. A Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to undertaking any professional experience/practicum placements which involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age). These placements are compulsory. International students will be required to obtain a certificate from their home country

Condition of Enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Condition of Continuing Enrolment
LANTITE: progression into the fourth year of the program is subject to the successful completion of both the literacy and numeracy components of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE).

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Economics

There shall be a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Economics.

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program: 

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Economics, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 96 units, comprising:

1. Core courses to the value of 30 units for the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)
2. Courses to the value of 12 units from the Bachelor of Teaching Curriculum and Methodology courses
3. Courses to the value of 18 units to complete a second teaching area, selected from courses listed in the academic program rules for the degree of Bachelor of Arts. The electives must be sequential and comprise no more than two courses at first year level. Second teaching areas can be chosen from:

**You must seek advice regarding eligibility from the Faculty of Arts prior to enrolling.
+MATHS 3025 Professional Practice III is not considered a Mathematical Sciences course and cannot be presented towards a major.
4. Courses to the value of 36 units from the Bachelor of Economics including:

  • Level I courses to the value of 12 units
  • Level II courses to the value of 12 units
  • Level III courses to the value of 12 units
