Overview

The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) is a one year program that includes advanced coursework and a research project in which students produce an extended piece of work (thesis) on a topic chosen in consultation with an academic supervisor.

The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.

Conditions

Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours).

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:

  1. One major to the value of 24 units from the following:
  • Anthropology (not offered in 2021)
  • Gender Studies and Social Analysis
  • Geography, Environment and Population (not offered in 2021)
  • History (not offered in 2021)
  • International Development (not offered in 2021)
  • Linguistics (not offered in 2021)
  • Philosophy (not offered in 2021)
  • Politics and International Studies (not offered in 2021)
 

Core Courses

  • Gender Studies and Social Analysis Honours

    To satisfy the requirements for Gender Studies and Social Analysis Honours students must complete courses to the value of 24 units.
