Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Science will provide graduates with a foundation in Petroleum Engineering and open up opportunities for entering into the exploration and production (upstream) part of the petroleum industry. It is also aimed at petro-technical professionals already working in the upstream petroleum industry who wish to advance their technical careers in petroleum engineering. Individuals who have a relevant degree with a strong mathematics component (such as geophysics, physics, applied mathematics), or who have significant upstream petroleum industry experience, may also be eligible for, and benefit from, this program.

The program is suitable for students with no prior experience in petroleum engineering. In this program, students undertake a variety of core courses, designed to provide knowledge of the techniques and theory of petroleum engineering. The program provides a pathway, and advanced standing, to further learning in the Master of Petroleum Engineering Science.

The Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Science is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.

Conditions

Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

There shall be a Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Science.

Qualification Requirements
Academic Program: 

To qualify for the degree of Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Science, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 24 units
