Overview

This double degree program provides students with a thorough grounding in contemporary media and a flexible Arts program that offers a wide choice of fields to study. The Media courses explore how the complex media industry is rapidly evolving under the influence of changing technologies and the different needs of societies around the world. The Arts program is for students interested in understanding the human condition in all its diversity, finding answers to important questions about human behaviour, cultures and history, and political problems. Students may develop distinctive pathways through the double degree program that allow them to develop knowledge and skills in relation to different facets of the practical and theoretical understanding of media and the Arts program provide students with specialised and transferable skills such as effective communication and creative thinking, adaptability, problem solving and analysis, teamwork, research, and professional and ethical conduct.


The Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 4 years.

Conditions

Condition of enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts

There shall be a Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 96 units, comprising:

1. Bachelor of Media courses to the value of 48 units including;

  • 30 units of Media Core courses including a course chosen from the Core Competency List to the value of 3 units
  • 9 units of Media Closed Electives
  • 9 units of Open electives
2. Bachelor of Arts courses to the value of 48 units including;
  • 24 units of an Arts Major, or 27 units if completing a major in Mathematical Sciences
  • 24 units of Open electives, or 21 units if completing a major in Mathematical Sciences
A student who undertakes the Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts may count a maximum of 24 units towards both degrees, satisfying the requirements for the two degrees with a minimum total of 96 units of study.

The requirement to complete a minor in the Bachelor of Arts is waived in the double degree.

The requirement for broadening, where applicable, is waived in the double degree.

Note: a Media Major cannot be studied as part of this double degree.

Note: Open electives are courses from the Faculty of Arts, not otherwise included, or other courses offered by the University that are available to the student.
