Overview
This program is designed for students fluent in both Chinese and English seeking a career as a professional interpreter and/or translator. It provides students with skills and knowledge in cultural and social studies, cross-cultural communication and practical skills in interpreting and translation. The program is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to undertake the Certified Interpreter and Certified Translator tests conducted by NAATI.
The Graduate Diploma in Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.
Conditions
Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Graduate Diploma in Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication
There shall be a Graduate Diploma in Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:
