Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours) is an undergraduate degree open to students who have passed the third year of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery, or high-performing graduates from other science-based disciplines. The program offers an opportunity for students to explore, in some depth, a specific aspect of dentistry, or a discipline related to dentistry, as part of their studies.
The Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours) program is a research-based degree. The main component of the program is a research project, leading to the production of a research report or thesis.  Students who pursue the Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours) program will develop an insight into research culture, practice in scientific thinking, understanding of scientific methods and skills in verbal and written scientific communication.

The Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours) is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full- time duration of 1 year.
 

Conditions

Condition of Enrolment
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Coordinator or Delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours)

There shall be a Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours).

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours), the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:

Core courses to the value of 24 units

The Bachelor of Science in Dentistry (Honours) comprises of two options:

Option # 1 Full time
Students must enrol into the matching Part 1 and Part 2 courses in sequential order:

1st Semester: DENT 4700A Honours Dental Science Part 1
2nd Semester: DENT 4700B Honours Dental Science Part 2

Option # 2 Part time
Students must enrol into the matching Part A, Part B and Part C courses in sequential order:

1st Semester: DENT 4710A Honours Dental Science T/Y Part A
2nd Semester: DENT 4710B Honours Dental Science T/Y Part B
3rd Semester: DENT 4710C Honours Dental Science T/Y Part C
