Overview
The Bachelor of Construction Management is a program of study which students undertake to develop project management skills with a focus on the application of technology in construction. The program is designed and structured to provide career and management ready graduates for the construction and infrastructure industries.
Students will acquire a sound foundation of knowledge in civil construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and engineering construction management. The program offers a compact structure which covers essential knowledge and skills in construction, project management and BIM with a strong focus of applying technology in construction and management techniques specific to the construction industry.
The Bachelor of Construction Management is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 3 years.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a broad, application-based understanding of the construction industry and associated project management in the digital era.
- Apply and use engineering technology methods, tools and processes, complemented by relevant knowledge from related disciplines, and the ability to integrate current advancements, within real-world contexts to manage the interface between design and construction processes for projects.
- Apply and use the principles of systems thinking, an understanding of new and established construction technology, and structural principles in managing projects.
- Apply critical and independent thinking to make sound judgements based on evidence, theory and logical reasoning.
- Adopt and employ professional and ethical attitudes, standards and values.
- Use effective interpersonal skills to enable empathetic and effective communication with a range of audiences.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Construction Management
There shall be a Bachelor of Construction Management.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Construction Management, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units, comprising:
- Level I core courses to the value of 27 units
- Level II core courses to the value of 24 units
- Level III core courses to the value of 18 units
- Level III elective courses to the value of 3 units
