Overview
The Bachelor of Health Service Management provides general foundation studies in a broad range of areas within the health service industry, including; determinants of health and health promotion; health service policy planning and evaluation; business development, economic and financial management; data analytics to inform decision making; human resource management; and strategic leadership.
The Health Service Management program will provide the skills to measure the health of populations, understand how social, cultural and economic factors influence contemporary health problems in Australia and internationally, and develop practical skills in health promotion, health educational strategies and the management of health services.
The program is designed to provide professional knowledge, skills and attitudes that underpin the role of health service managers. Graduates acquire contemporary leadership and management skills and knowledge to enable beginning level practice in a wide variety of health care settings.
The Bachelor of Health Service Management is an AQF Level 7 qualification with a standard full time duration of three years or a standard part-time duration of 6 years.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Broad and coherent knowledge about the theory and practice of Health Service Management, including health policy and reform, clinical governance and safety and quality.
- Well-developed cognitive and technical skills in leadership and management and organisational change.
- Broad understanding of business, financial and human resource management skills.
- Broad understanding of ethical considerations in Health Service Management.
- Effective professional self-awareness skills including communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Program Director or Delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.

Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Health Service Management, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 72 units, comprising:
1. Core courses to the value of 69 units
2. Capstone course to the value of 3 units
