Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Military Law will enable students to engage at a high level with the key military law principles relevant to practice as a Legal Officer in the Australian Defence Force.
The Graduate Certificate in Military Law is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 0.5 years.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Apply military law to solve legal problems arising in ADF legal officer practice.
- Incorporate diverse perspectives into analysis of military law, and critique military law and supporting policy from theoretical and practical perspectives.
- Undertake research in military law which engages with primary and secondary legal materials and be able to make original contributions to the resolution of inconsistencies in the law, identify conflicts between law and policy, resolve gaps in the law and policy and locate opportunities for improvement to law, policy and/or practice.
- Communicate military law information to relevant ADF audiences, both legal and non-legal, including in training contexts.
- Employ personal autonomy, and apply judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a military law professional in the fields of discipline, administrative and operational law.
- Reflect on their abilities to perform the role of a professional military lawyer and interact with others to do so effectively.
Conditions
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss f place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Academic Program Rules for Graduate Certificate in Military Law
There shall be a Graduate Certificate in Military Law.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Military Law, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 12 units, comprising:
