Overview
The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) [4 years] program provides deep mathematical or statistical knowledge in a chosen discipline. The program provides a broad foundation in the mathematical sciences, the option of majoring in pure mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics, and research training through a substantial supervised research project in the final year of the program.
The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) [4 years] is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard fulltime duration of 4 years.
Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate deep knowledge of the mathematical and statistical sciences.
Critically analyse and solve problems at an advanced level as independent selfdirected learners.
Apply highly developed problemsolving skills in the mathematical and statistical sciences.
Demonstrate skills in the use of technology to solve advanced mathematical and statistical problems.
Apply written and oral communication skills and teamwork skills.
 Demonstrate awareness of professional practice.
Research and apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills to a topic in the mathematical or statistical sciences.
Conditions
Condition of continuing enrolment: Students enrolled in this program must maintain a GPA of 4.5 in each Teaching Period or will be required to transfer to the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences. To progress into the fourth year of the program, students must have completed 12 units of Level III courses in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Statistics with a GPA of 5.0 or better.
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be readmitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of nonenrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) [4 years]
There shall be a Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) [4 years].
