Overview

This program provides students with an understanding of the principles and practice of environmental policy, planning and governance. It addresses how global warming, water shortages, deforestation and the like are to be managed now and into the future.

The Master of Environmental Policy and Management is an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification with a standard full-time duration of 2 years.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of a complex body of knowledge in environmental policy and management, and of the concepts, theories and methods of enquiry appropriate to the discipline.
  2. Understand, argue and communicate complex environmental policy and management ideas and concepts in both oral and written forms.
  3. Plan and execute research-based projects of increasing sophistication, both independently and collaboratively on the topic of environmental policy and management.
  4. Select and use appropriate research tools, including technologies, to obtain, analyse, evaluate and interpret information on environmental policy and management.
  5. Demonstrate intercultural and ethical responsibility, and the ability to form and sustain productive relationships both within and across disciplinary boundaries.

Conditions

Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.

Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program. 
 

Academic Program Rules for Master of Environmental Policy and Management

There shall be a Master of Environmental Policy and Management.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the degree of Master of Environmental Policy and Management, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 48 units, comprising:

In the Research Specialisation:

  1. Core courses to the value of 12 units
  2. Research equivalent courses to the value of 24 units in the form of a research dissertation
  3. Electives to the value of 12 units
In the Coursework Specialisation:
  1. Core courses to the value of 12 units
  2. Research equivalent courses to the value of 12 units in the form of a research dissertation
  3. Electives to the value of 24 units
