Overview
The program is designed to offer knowledge and skills in accounting and related fields. It will enable students possessing undergraduate degrees in non-accounting disciplines to move into careers in accounting, financial management, auditing and business advisory services in public practice, industry or government. Recent developments in reporting practices have presented increasing career opportunities in public and private sector entities.
The Master of Professional Accounting is an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification with a standard duration of 1.5 years.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Explain and apply advanced and integrated knowledge in the field of accounting.
- Structure and articulate concise and cohesive accounting argument to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy, judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a professional with high level skills in the accounting discipline.
- Identify and apply ethical principles relevant to the accounting profession.
- Use appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodologies to support research, problem solving and decision making in an accounting context.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Faculty before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Academic Program Rules for Master of Professional Accounting
There shall be a Master of Professional Accounting.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Master of Professional Accounting, the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 36 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 33 units
- Elective courses to the value of 3 units
Prior Learning
Students with cognate knowledge may be approved by the Program Director to complete additional electives in lieu of core courses to the equivalent unit value.
