Overview
This program introduces students to the principles and practices of strategic communication. Students will develop in-depth knowledge and practical skills in media relations, social media management, risk and crisis communication, and will undertake targeted professional development.
The Graduate Diploma in Media (Strategic Communication) is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate and apply advanced knowledge of strategic communication theories, industries and practices.
- Understand and apply professional and practical skills in strategic communication.
- Understand and communicate complex ideas and debates in contemporary strategic communication practice.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of academic and practice-based research methods in strategic communication.
- Demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and adherence to high ethical standards of professional and research practice.
Conditions
Interruption of program:
Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.

There shall be a Graduate Diploma in Media (Strategic Communication).
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the Graduate Diploma in Media (Strategic Communication), the student must satisfactorily complete a program of study a consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units, comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 18 units
- Elective courses to the value of 6 units
