Overview
The Bachelor of International Development (Honours) is a one year program that includes advanced coursework and a research project in which students produce an extended piece of work (thesis) on a topic chosen in consultation with an academic supervisor.
The Bachelor of International Development (Honours) is an AQF Level 8 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1 year.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of a complex body of knowledge in International Development, including the key concepts, theories, methods of enquiry and emerging issues associated with the discipline.
- Develop critical thinking skills to achieve practical solutions to the challenge of poverty reduction utilising the key tools, methods, practices and digital technologies employed in International Development practice.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of skill set, including effective written and oral communication, to work collaboratively and independently.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of lifelong learning skills, career readiness, cultural competencies and leadership skills required to graduate-level International Development professional practice.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of self-awareness and intercultural and ethical competency to make sense of different values and social practices, assoicated with poverty and national and international inequalities.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of analytical and research skills, and self-reflective evaluation of their own personal capabilities to better prepare their employability and possibility for postgraduate studies.
Conditions
Interruption of program: Students must apply for permission from the Executive Dean or delegate before taking a Leave of Absence. Any extension of the leave without approval will result in the loss of place in the program but an application may be made to be re-admitted to the program subject to the admission procedures in place at the time.
Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.
Academic Program Rules for Bachelor of International Development (Honours)
There shall be a Bachelor of International Development (Honours).
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of International Development (Honours) the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 24 units comprising:
- Core courses to the value of 12 units
- Research Dissertation to the value of 12 units
