Overview

The Master of Business Administration (Health Management) is a comprehensive degree that explores the core areas of business activity from finance and marketing through to strategy formulation and decision-making; additionally the program introduces students to management challenges typically associated the Health Services sector. The program also introduces students to the theories of complex systems, organisational behavior and leadership styles. Rigour and relevance are carefully balanced through the application of theory to authentic work place scenarios. Upon graduation students will have developed a sound understanding of business management practices, organisational cultures and their own leadership style.

The Master of Business Administration (Health Management) is an AQF Level 9 qualification with a standard full-time duration of 1.5 years. However, this program is only offered  part-time for a duration of 2 years.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain a variety of theories on the nature of leadership, diagnose technical and adaptive challenges and generate a range of solutions to mobilise people to operate in an adaptive environment.
  2. Critique different paradigms of management, leadership and entrepreneurship.
  3. Explain the key enterprise concepts and utilise relevant theories and research methods to evaluate, formulate and implement ideas, opportunities and innovations.
  4. Analyse how strategic objectives can emerge from the interplay of functional elements of an enterprise and formalised planning.
  5. Integrate a range of complex concepts of leadership and core management disciplines so as to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Generate and execute socially responsible, ethical and future focused management and leadership solutions in ambiguous situations.

Conditions

Program Maximum Duration: As specified in Table 1 of the Coursework Academic Programs Policy, this program must be completed within a Maximum Duration which includes any periods of non-enrolment, leave of absence or approved study at other institutions for credit towards a Program.

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the Master of Business Administration (Health Management) the student must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following requirements with a combined total of not less than 36 units, comprising:

  1. Core courses to the value of 30 units
  2. Research courses to the value of 6 units
